Context
Jay “The Sport” Jackson is getting ready to fight Bixby, the Heavyweight Boxing Champion, and the pressure is on. Jay is a black man who has challenged a white fighter, and there has been no shortage of violence in black communities at the news of this fight. Suddenly Nina, Jay’s sister, arrives at the arena. She has been in his mind throughout his career as he fights not only for titles but for racial equality. But Nina hasn’t surprised Jay to cheer him on; she has a more fearful and practical

Nina: Mr. Parker bet his wagon on the fight.
Said if you don’t win, he don’t see no reason to leave the house anyway.
(Jay smiles)
Nina: And then there’s these two. (She pulls a small picture out of her purse and hands it to him. His eyes go wide)
Jay: Ain’t no way.
