Text

START: Gabriel: You smoke.

Gabrielle: No, not really. I just want to hold one. My mother used to smoke. I used to think she looked so sophisticated and after… Well, I just felt like looking sophisticated.

Gabriel: That was your first time, wasn’t it?

Gabrielle: Didn’t know if I was meant to tell you. Thought I’d just let you find out.

[... … …]

END: Gabrielle: We just f&*#@!. (Beat.) That’s all.

Gabriel: Right.

Gabrielle: Your father’s right about the Coorong… You can be standing on solid ground then without even noticing, it turns to water beneath you. And if you don’t move, you’ll drown.

A flash of light on the horizon. A rumble of thunder.

Gabriel: Here.

He gives her the piece of driftwood.

Keep this to remember your first time.
