A Year with Frog and Toad

Musical

Writers: William Reale Robert Reale

Plot

Act One

The Birds return as winter is finally ending and spring is just around the corner. They introduce us to Frog and Toad, both still sound asleep for winter hibernation in their own homes. They both dream of the other, it turns out they are sharing the same dream! They talk about how much they enjoy each other’s company and how ready they are for the year to come (“A Year With Frog and Toad”). Frog is the first of the pair to wake and see spring, and promptly leaves to go and wake Toad from his slumber. Toad is resistant to the idea of waking up, and he even goes as far as to smash his alarm clock with his shoe! Toad tells Frog to wake him in another month, and goes back to sleep. Frog laments this idea, as he will hate spending a whole month without his best friend. Frog comes up with a clever plan and just removes an extra month from the calendar on the wall! Frog then wakes Toad again, and Toad feels refreshed and invigorated from his “extra month of sleep” (“It’s Spring”).
