Synopsis

The show is based on the 2nd and 3rd books in the Anne of Green Gables series of books by Lucy Maud Montgomery. In the first act, Gilbert Blythe allows Anne Shirley to replace him as Avonlea Schoolmaster in order for her to stay close to home to care for her adopted mother, Marilla. Gilbert is adored by every young girl in Avonlea except for Anne Shirley, the only woman he loves. Meanwhile, Anne's best friend Diana gets married to her beau, Fred Wright. Gilbert then proposes to Anne but she declines. Thereafter, Josie Pye makes her move on Gilbert only to be rejected by him. After Rachel Lynde's husband dies, she is able to move to Green Gables to take care of Marilla. Thus, Anne is able to live out her dream of attending Redmond University. In the second Act, Anne meets a millionaire named Roy Gardener and makes a friend in Phillipa Gordon. Phillipa constantly has two beaus following her around and swears that she will make at least one friend who's female, which turns out to be Anne. Meanwhile, Anne and Roy start to date. When the dance comes along Anne goes with Roy and Gilbert goes with Josie, who he invited to the dance from Avonlea to make Anne jealous. After the dance Roy asks Anne to marry him but she rejects his proposal.  Gilbert then gives Anne an early birthday gift in the form of three letters her parents left behind before they passed away.  Finally, Anne realizes that she is in love with Gilbert.
