North Atlantic originally played a sell-out theatrical run at the Gene Frankel Work Shop in New York City. The critics who attended were highly favorable. Henry Hewes, one-time president of the N.Y. Drama Critics Circle, called the musical “The best of the year” and the Show Business newspaper awarded North Atlantic as “Outstanding Production of the Year”.
