Plot

The stage opens to begin telling the creation story from the Book of Genesis. There is darkness on the stage as the Storytellers start to talk about the world at the beginning. The world comes together as Father shapes it based on his dreams (“Let There Be”). At last, he creates Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, a spectacularly perfect place (“Father's Greeting).

Eve spots a tree with glowing fruit high on the top of the hill and questions Father about it. Father tells Eve that this is the Tree of Knowledge and that the fruit is strictly forbidden. Eve is perplexed as to why Father would create something bad. In a quick attempt to distract the two from the tree, he begins a game where they name all of the animals that surround them (“The Naming”). Adam and Eve then begin to drift off to sleep while Father soothes them with a lullaby (“Grateful Children”).

Eve still seeks more from life and one day approaches the Tree of Knowledge (“Perfect”). The tree tugs at her soul, but Adam
