It’s the beginning of Spring and Todd appears with some shopping. He is off-kilter and often speaks about himself and Kali in the third-person (as both characters continue to do throughout the play). Todd is excited about their forthcoming trip to Stockholm but something is a little off as he wonders where Kali is. Just then, Kali appears with identical shopping. They have been to see a Swedish movie and Kali is still lost in the beauty of the film. Kali has decided she wants to be Swedish and Todd teases her for it, much to her delight. Giggling, they return home to the house they bought two years ago. Since then, they have gutted the house and made it their own--the ultimate, desirable property. Todd has received a letter from his mother but her embarrassing emotional outpouring infuriates him and he puts it to one side.
