Courtin’ in Georgia is an adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s one-act play A Marriage Proposal. Set to Georgia in 1881, John Glassman is a frail hypochondriac and a bachelor at the age of 35. Nervously, he tries to ask his neighbor's headstrong daughter to marry him. However, Natalie Cavendish is stubbornly headstrong and is not prepared to simply settle or compromise, even when a much longed-for proposal is in the air. There is a long history of rivalry between their families which is dragged into the present when John and Natalie fall into a dispute over the ownership of a small piece of land. Cleverly using the idioms and rhythms of the language of the antiquated deep South, this lively play will make a great addition to an evening of one act plays.
