Overview
Synopsis
Philip Kan Gotanda’s two-man play examines the experience of Asian-American actors in Hollywood. Vincent Chang is an actor from the Golden Age of movies, when roles for Asian Americans were scarce and those that were available often relied on offensive stereotypes. Bradley Yamashita, an up-and-coming actor in his 20s, represents a new generation willing to defy the Hollywood establishment in favor of better representation. Bradley challenges Vincent’s willingness to take any role, while Vincent dismisses him as a young actor who hasn’t yet earned his keep. As their unlikely friendship unfolds, they are both forced to reconcile their pasts and re-examine their philosophical differences about what it means to be an Asian American in Hollywood.
