Plot

Act One, Scene 1: Stretchmarks begins with a bare stage with three small lifeless trees, and in the base of each tree, there is a small luminescent ball. Mother Nature enters as a homeless woman with a crown of flowers on her head carrying a drum and a change cup, asking the audience for change. The song “Cheek to Cheek” is playing, and she is humming along. She speaks to the audience and tells of her concerns for mothers these days. She becomes indignant, remembering a time when mothers were honored, revered, canonized, and now they are so down on their luck. She notices the trees and puts them closer together, remarking on how they need water...they need each other. Some of them need more help to grow than others, after all, no two are exactly alike. On cue Leda enters...a young woman, vibrant, edgy creative hipster. she is a “writer slash photographer, slash painter, slash performance artiste!” Speaking to the audience, she tells them how she is SO deep, and how she is too
