Emma Pennell is a Mi’kmaw classical singer from Ktaqmkuk who grew up in rural Northern Ontario. Emma is a recent grad of Western University where they received their Bachelors Degree in Music with honours in Voice Performance and a minor in Indigenous Studies. Emma is a soprano, who has studied voice under the tutelage of Susan Urquart Pandalfo, Pamela Teed, Torin Chiles, Ted Baerg, coaches Dr. Charlene Biggs, Marianna Chibotar-Rutkevich, Maestro Simone Luti and is set to study with Soprano Adrianne Pieczonka in fall 2023 at The Glenn Gould School of Music at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto. Emma has served the Canadian music community as an advocate, changing policy, insisting on systemic change and through Indigenous activism in the arts.
