About Whipple Performing Arts Studio

The Whipple Dance Studio opened its doors in 1979. Owners and Directors, Ron and Kim Whipple were avid disco dancers and taught disco lessons in the Tunkhannock area. Both grew up influenced by the entertainment industry. Kim branched out into teaching tap and ballet, studying with Broadway professionals in New York and eventually became a serious student of the Cecchetti Ballet style. This is the Italian method of ballet developed by Maestro Enrico Cecchetti. She became a member of the Cecchetti Council of America and continues to train in this method. Visit www.cecchettieastcoast.org or Facebook Cecchetti East Coast for more information on this organization. The existing studio was built in 1990 by the Whipples. It was built specifically with dancers in mind. Two spacious studios include hardwood sprung floors, a girls and boys changing room, two bathrooms, a comfortable waiting area and front desk area. The studio sits on one acre of ground with plenty of parking. It is located off Route 29, just south of Tunkhannock. The Whipple's also formed the community theater group, The Wyoming County Players in 1979. Many of their students have had fun participating in the Junior Players and Little Hams productions throughout the year. The studio has recently been remodeled to include a 100 seat viewing area for performances with tiered seating and professional lighting and sound. Studio One doubles as a classroom and stage area. This new performance space is called The Starlite Playhouse in honor of Kim's father who built the first drive-in theater in NEPA in 1947 - The Starlite Drive-in, which was located where the Weis Market is presently. Visit www.wyomingcountyplayers.com for upcoming auditions and events. The Wyoming County Players and The Starlite Playhouse are also on Facebook.
