About UW-Platteville

The UW-Platteville Department of Performing and Visual Arts offers a theatre major and minors in theatre and musical theatre. Ambitious six-productions seasons offer opportunities for you to participate in performances. Within the theatre program, you'll receive instruction in acting, directing, voice, movement, stagecraft, design, styles, history, critical theory, and dramatic literature. Majors and minors must complete a rigorous academic program that teaches them about the practical side of theatre (stagecraft, acting, stage managing, directing, and design) as well as courses in history, literature, and theory.

Theatre is also an excellent second major or minor for fields such as communication technology, English, business, education, engineering, and music. Graduates often find the skills they learn in theatre are essential to their careers. If you're planning to teach, the program also offers certification as a theatre specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Additionally, many non-major's elect theatre courses as part of their general education requirements for a well-rounded college experience.

Studying theatre is an exciting pursuit that challenges you to be an independent thinker and a skilled theatre practitioner. Once you graduate, you'll be ready for careers in theatre or for graduate school.
