About Hillsboro Artists' Regional Theatre

Hillsboro Artists’ Regional Theatre (HART) and Hillsboro Actors’ Training were started in 1994 by Kim L. and John H. Sandstrom as a private company. It quickly established itself in the community of Hillsboro, Oregon. For the next three years, Kim ran the theatre and the acting schools, building a solid audience base and a great deal of support for her organization. In December 1996, the Sandstroms decided that the needs of the theater were too much for one person to manage so they began to look for a buyer.

Friends of HART, Inc. is a non-profit community organization formed in 1997 specifically to purchase HART from the Sandstroms. Friends of HART is dedicated to enriching the greater Hillsboro community through providing quality, live performing theatre arts.

Our show directors and office staff are paid a small stipend, but other participants (board members, actors, costumers, stagehands, box office attendants, etc.) are unpaid volunteers.

In addition to a regular season of creative, clever and entertaining plays and theatre classes, HART offers:

Participation in local events: First Tuesday Art Walk, Farmers Market, St. Patrick's Day Parade, Fourth of July Parade, etc. Children's theatre birthday parties. Participation in joint functions with area service clubs. Some use the theater for their fundraising purposes. An up-to-date on-line presence with a web site, Facebook and Twitter. Support of students who can work with, and learn about HART, to earn Community Service credits. College intern programs. A venue for Hispanic and hearing-impaired performances. While maintaining and expanding all that HART has to offer to the community, Friends of HART has built a strong foundation for the future. Friends of HART has been fortunate to partner with businesses and community members who volunteer their services to HART, such as for legal advice, financial analysis, tax preparation, printing and marketing.

On April 13, 2007 HART concluded a successful $650K capital campaign and opened the doors of its new theater located at 185 SE Washington in Hillsboro, with the opening play, “Don’t Dress for Dinner”, and continues to present quality plays and musicals to the Washington County community.
