Coastal Television Network, an offshoot of the AGORO Centre for Intercultural Learning and Talent Development, was authorized by the National Communications Authority to operate as an institution and a community television station in 2007. Usage of air waves in Ghana was liberalized in 1992 and this was followed by the start of several radio stations and a few TV stations. However, the trend was to set up commercial radio and television stations and as a result, most of the programming has been oriented towards entertainment, reality shows and monitoring of foreign television stations. Most of these television stations are national networks, meaning they cater for viewers from the whole country.
