Fury Theatre takes it's name from the Greek Furies of ancient mythology and was original conceived of by Artistic Director Mark Dodge and several classmates while attending Columbia College Chicago in the late 90’s. Our mission then as it is now was to draw all the passion and conflict and anger and elation and fury out of every line of every play we performed. With an emphasis in physical action and reaction, stage combat and intense physicality, our productions reach for that peak of kinetic emotional potential connecting the audience with the beating heart of the player on the stage.
Since the late 1990s, Fury has operated as a non-incorporated company (Fury Theater Productions, Fury Theater Company, Fury Theater) and has performed one act plays and stage readings at various Chicago festivals such as Abbie Hoffman and The Side Studio's Harvest Fest.
In the summer of 2011 Fury fully incorporated as Fury Theater Company, Inc and achieved 501(c)3 status in 2012. We operate under the name Fury Theatre. We have been a partner with the Chicago Park District since 2011 . Along with our robust youth program and school outreach, we have produced over a dozen shows at three Chicago parks (Berger, Chase and Indian Boundary Park) since incorporation.
We now move headlong into the future supporting several artistic initiatives to bring new works, classics and quality children's theater to Chicago's neighborhoods with our Short Attention Spam Theater new plays festival, Teen Bard productions, Young Performers Kids shows, Shakes in the Park and our main stage shows spanning all genres.
