The Alpha Players grew from the hopes and dreams of a handful of early Florissant residents who wished to bring the experience of theatre to the growing suburbs of St. Louis County. They rehearsed in local churches (or wherever they could find space) and finally gave their inaugural performance of Gore Vidal’s Visit to a Small Planet in 1959. They performed at a local community center room until 1972 when the City of Florissant opened a community theatre. In 1973, The Alpha Players’ partnership with the Florissant Civic Center Theatre began as they were one of the first groups to perform in the theater.
Over the years, the group has grown to present three productions per season and a membership of over 100 volunteers.
It is known for quality productions that appeal to a broad base of people and for welcoming new members.
