The Drama Program at Camp Shoshanim consists of two productions (one each session) and a drama elective. Past productions have included, Annie, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Aladdin, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Law and Order Fairy Tale Unit, Twelfth Night (staged Shakespeare in the Park Style) and Peter Pan. All campers are invited to audition and all receive a role. Rehearsals are scheduled throughout the day with our professional Theater Staff. Campers dance in professionally choreographed musicals numbers while rehearsing in our newly redesigned dance studio. They learn music with the Musical Director in our music studio. Campers stage scenes with the Director on our mainstage, The Purple Rose Playhouse or outside on our lush outdoor theater space. Each camper learns and grows her theater skills while working collaboratively to stage a fully mounted production. Oldest campers are also given the opportunity to work backstage and paint scenery.
The Drama Elective is a three day experience where campers explore improvisation, scene work and monologues. Campers receive in-depth instruction on breaking down a scene, characterization, physicalizing a character, interpreting a monologue and playing many improvisation games. Workshop topics change throughout the summer.
