York Footlights Theatre was founded by Nick Boardman, in 2012. The initial mission was to fundraise for Leeds Heart Unit's "Save Our Surgery" campaign, and our debut production of 'Robin Hood' raised over £1,000 for the cause with half of the proceeds going to Mia's Memory, a charity wich supports bereaved parents.
Nick was determined that 'Footlights' become a tool for York artists to develop and stage their work. In 2014, performer and writer Olivia Jayne Newton took the helm to produce her play 'Crossed Swords' and later 'Vincent: A Portrait of Van Gogh' - the company's first musical.
From these humble beginnings, York Footlights Theatre continues to grow and support local talent and worthy causes.
