Biography
Michael Gow
Michael Gow is an Australian playwright and director.
Gow studied at Sydney University from 1973-1976. Early in his career, he acted with the Nimrod, Thalia, and Sydney Theatre Companies.
He first attracted attention for his play The Kid in 1983. His most famous work, Away, premiered in 1986 at Sydney's Griffin Theatre Company. The play was critically lauded and has become a classic in the Australian theatrical canon. His 2007 play Toy Symphony premiered at Sydney's Belvoir St Theatre and won four Sydney Theatre Awards, including Best Mainstage Production, and the Helpmann Award for Best New Australian Work.
Gow was the artistic director of the Queensland Theatre Company from 1999-2010, during which time he directed many productions.
Gow has also written for television and received an AFI Award for Best Screenplay in a Miniseries for Eden's Lost in 1989.
