Josefina Lopez emigrated to the United States from San Luis Patosi, Mexico in 1969 at the age of 5. They settled in Los Angeles, California and were undocumented for 13 years. Lopex recieved Amnesty in 1987 and because a U.S. citizen in 1995. She got her B.A. in film and screenwriting from Columbia College Chicago and an MFA in screenwriting from UCLA. She is best known as the author of the play and screenplay Real Women Have Curves (2002).
