Born in Cuba on March 4, 1953, Emilio Estefan moved to America in 1968, fleeing from the Castro Revolution. He formed the Miami Latin Boys, which later became Miami Sound Machine. Estefan played various instruments in the group including keyboard and accordion. In 1975, he met singer Gloria Farjardo, who would join the band and later become his wife. Under her new name of Gloria Estefan, Emilio worked as her manager, music director, and producer.
While Gloria’s career grew, Estefan was beginning an amazing career of his own. He became an in-demand record producer and worked with musical acts such as Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Estefan formed a record company with P.Diddy in the early 2000s and continues to work as a high profile record producer.
Estefan is the father of Emily and Nayib Estefan. Estefan along with his wife, Gloria, and daughter Emily, helped to bring On Your Feet!, a jukebox musical about the life and career of Gloria Estefan to Broadway.
