Thulani Davis is a Grammy Award winning writer, who has written works for theatre, screen, and opera, as well as journalistic pieces, novels, and poety. Davis studied at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia, and began her writing career as a reporter in San Francisco.
Theatre and performing have always been part of Davis's work, and she spent some time working as a performing poet, and has to date written seven plays. Her writing skills is wide and varied, and she has credits for films, documentaries, and novels, as well as for musical works. Davis worked with her cousin, composer Anthony Davis, on two of his operas, including the 1986 biopic X, The life and times of Malcolm X.
