Eleanor Bergstein is an American writer, best known for her 1987 film Dirty Dancing. Bergstein based the film largely on her own teenage summers, holidaying in the luxury resorts in the Catskills Mountains. In 2004, she adapted the movie for the stage, creating Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage.
Bergstein also wrote the screenplay for the 1980 film It's My Turn, as well as writing, producing, and directing the 1995 film Let It Be Me. Her novels include Advancing Paul Newman (1973) and Ex-Lover: A Novel (1989).
