Amy Powers is an American lyricist. After graduating from Vassar College, Powers attended Columbia University, where she graduated with an MBA, and concluded her studies at Harvard Law. Powers left her law career and pursued a career as a writer.
Powers has written for Film and TV projects such as the Barbie franchise, Glee, Austin & Ally, Ella Enchanted, and Sweet Home Alabama. Powers was also the lyricist for the title song from the Oscar-winning film When We Were Kings. Powers received an Emmy nomination in 2007 for the song “Shine” from Barbie In The 12 Dancing Princesses, and an Annie Award nomination for Best music in an Animated Feature for her original song “To Be A Princess”.
As a theater writer, Powers has written the lyrics for Lizzie Borden (1991), The Game (2003), Doctor Zhivago (2006, co-written with Michael Korie, as well as developing several songs for Sunset Boulevard. Many of her songs have been recorded by celebrities such as Barbara Streisand, Patti Lupone, and Elaine Paige. In addition to her theater work as a writer, Powers is a co-producer of Heathers the Musical.
