Claudia Haas is an American playwright who primarily writes for young audiences. She has published 50 plays, including By Candlelight, which won first place in the Aurand Harris Playwriting Contest. Her play The Fisherman and His Wife won the 2008-2009 Anna Zornio Memorial Playwriting Contest and the Prince George’s Children’s Theatre Contest.
In addition to writing, Haas also directs and teaches youth theatre. She continues to publish one-act and full-length plays along with monologues geared towards middle school and high school performers. Many of her plays deal with the intersection of different generations and different periods in history. Her play Antigone in Munich transposes the theme of the ancient Greek play Antigone onto World War II Germany. She has also written adaptations of Pride and Prejudice and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
