Robert Stigwood was an Australian-born music entrepreneur, film producer, and impresario who resided in the UK. He began managing the British rock group, Cream, in 1966 and took on The Bee Gees the following year. Stigwood went on to produce Hair and Oh! Calcutta! for the West End stage in 1968 and 1970 respectively. In 1971, he produced the first theatrical production of Jesus Christ Superstar, which opened in the USA. This began a successful working relationship with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice which later continued with Evita. On film, Stigwood went on to produce the hugely successful movies, Saturday Night Fever and Grease. In his later years, he was active in the new stage adaptations of both movies.
