Kevin Kling is an American playwright and author. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York and Osseo, Minnesota. After graduating Gustavus Adolphus College with a degree in theatre, he began writing plays and performing his stories in Minneapolis. His one-man Home and Away was performed at the Seattle Repertory Theatre and the Second Stage Theatre in New York City. In 1993, he won the prestigious Whiting Award for emerging writers. He also received the A.P. Anderson Award for Outstanding Contributions to Literature and the Arts in Minnesota and the National Storytelling Network’s Circle of Excellence Award.
In addition to his plays, Kling is an author and storyteller. His first book of short stories was titled The Dog Says How. He regularly contributes to the NPR news show All Things Considered and has released CD collections of his stories. He continues to perform autobiographical stories throughout the world. In 2014, he was named Minneapolis Story Laureate by the city’s mayor.
