John Patrick Shanley

John Patrick Shanley, born October 3, 1950, in The Bronx, New York, is an acclaimed American playwright, screenwriter, and director whose work often explores themes of faith, morality, and the complexities of human relationships. Raised in a working-class Irish-American family, Shanley’s upbringing and Catholic education deeply influenced the themes and characters in his plays.

Shanley gained widespread recognition with his Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play Doubt: A Parable (2004), a gripping drama set in a Catholic school in the 1960s.
