Biography
Noel Carey
Noel Carey, a dynamic New York-based actor, writer, and composer, built his career on the intersection of performance and music, bringing a theatrical intensity to every endeavor. A graduate of Emerson College's BFA program, he connected with Julia Mattison during their freshman year, sparking a collaboration that evolved from college sketches to Broadway triumphs. Carey's acting resume boasts national tours of Murder for Two—where he dazzled as both performer and pianist—and regional runs of Million Dollar Quartet, alongside film credits in Life Sucks (2018) and 4th Dementia (2024). His compositional voice, marked by witty patter songs and soaring melodies, first gained traction through co-created web content like Brooklyn Sound, which humorously dissected millennial life in Brooklyn and funded their early artistic risks.
Carey's breakthrough arrived with the 2024 Broadway musical Death Becomes Her, where he and Mattison composed a score that earned a 2025 Tony nomination, lauded for its ridiculous yet poignant take on immortality and vanity. The duo's permission to "be ridiculous," as Carey described, infused the show with gleeful chaos, reflecting his personal ethos of embracing absurdity in art. Married since July 2023, Carey balances his professional life with intimate tributes like a Beatles-inspired cabaret featuring Steve Miller Band veteran Everet Almond, while continuing to compose for theater and screen. His work not only entertains but challenges norms, positioning him as a rising force in musical theater's next generation.
