Adam Rapp
Playwright, Librettist
Biography
Adam Rapp
Adam Rapp is an acclaimed novelist, filmmaker, and playwright, perhaps best known for his play The Sound Inside, which earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Play. His writing often focuses on marginalized characters and the gritty realities of American life, making him a natural fit to adapt S.E. Hinton’s world.
Rapp’s approach to the musical The Outsiders was to strip away the "musical theater polish" and lean into the prose-heavy, internal narrative of Ponyboy Curtis, ensuring the script maintained the visceral honesty of the original 1967 novel.
