Jacques Offenbach was a French Romantic composer who is well remembered for nearly 100 contributions to the operetta genre, as well as several comic operas. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, and subsequently worked as a cellist and conductor. Several of his works are still incredibly popular today including Orphee aux enfers, La belle Helene, and The Tales of Hoffman.
