Francesca Caccini, nicknamed 'La Cecchina' by the Florentines, was the daughter of Giulio Caccini. She was a sought-after singer, lutenist, poet, teacher, and composer of the early Baroque period, and her opera La liberazione di Ruggiero is considered to be the oldest surviving opera by a female composer. Very little of her music survives today.
