Context
Wednesday Addams has always been a girl who marched to the beat of her own drum. She is a member of the Addams family and, to them, to be sad is what we would experience as happy. Darkness is desirable, and violence and mayhem are fun. Wednesday is not a sentimental girl and normally detests what others find cute. However, all that has changed since she fell in love with Lucas Beineke, a young aspiring poet from Ohio. Now, she is surprised to find that all cute things she once abhorred -- bunnies, birds, Disney World, to name a few — she now adores. She confesses to her younger brother, Pugsley, that love has got her looking at the world in a whole new way.
Vocal Notes
The song is a demanding belt vehicle for a young mezzo-soprano, requiring a wide range with powerful mix/belt on sustained high notes and rapid patter sections for comedic effect. Performance-wise, it calls for strong acting through movement—Wednesday's deadpan delivery contrasting with explosive energy—plus physical comedy in interacting with Pugsley, demanding agility, facial expressiveness, and vocal agility to shift from sultry lows to triumphant highs while maintaining character authenticity.
Can be performed as a solo without Pugsley’s interjections.
