What is a tenor?
The highest male vocal range, tenors are known for their bright, ringing tone and ability to soar through high notes. They often portray romantic heroes, youthful characters, or characters of nobility in both opera and musical theatre. The tenor's vocal range extends up to C5, or 'tenor high C'. The low extreme for tenors is roughly A♭2 (two A♭'s below middle C). Some famous tenors include Luciano Pavarotti, Michael Crawford, David Hyde Pierce, and Jonas Kaufmann.
