Jason Howland is an American composer, music director, playwright, and producer with extensive Broadway credits. Originally from Concord, Massachusetts, Howland was first given an internship while in college to work on the Jekyll & Hyde workshop, which he eventually conducted and music directed five years later in the 1997 Broadway production. From there, Howland continued to music direct and music supervise a variety of Broadway shows including Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (for which he won a Grammy Award in 2015), Les Misérables, The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Civil War, Spiderman, and Bonnie and Clyde amongst others. In 2005, he was announced as the producer for Little Women and eventually stepped down to compose the music instead with Mindi Dickstein.
In 2023, Howland wrote the music for The Great Gatsby with Nathan Tysen and produced and orchestrated Shucked to huge success. He was nominated for a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for his orchestrations, as well as a Grammy Award in 2024 for Best Musical Theatre Album. Howland has also appeared as a guest conductor with major orchestras around the United States, and has conducted for legends such as Natalie Cole, Ray Charles, David Hasselhoff, Lauren Kennedy, and Lizz Wright.
