French playwright and librettist François-Louis Gand Le Bland Du Roullet, known as 'Bailli Du Roullet' was a good friend of the German opera composer Chrisoph Willibald Gluck, whom he met whilst serving in the French Guards in Vienna. Together, Du Roullet and Gluck collaborated on two of Gluck's most famous operas Iphigenie en Aulide and Alceste, translating the latter from Calzabigi's Italian libretto for its performance in Paris in 1776.
Du Roullet also wrote several comedies, as well as treatises on drama and theatre.
