Julius J. Epstein

Julius J. Epstein was an American screenwriter and playwright. He is best known for his screenplay, Casablanca (1942), which was written by Epstein along with his twin brother, Philip G. Epstein. Philip passed away in 1952, which was a great loss for Epstein. He continued to write screenplays and received 3 Academy Award nominations. Some of his credits include Four Daughters (1938), Light in the Piazza (1962), and Mr. Skeffington (1944). Epstein worked as a playwright; however, his endeavors into playwriting were less successful than his screen writing. Some of his notable plays include But, Seriously, Chicken Every Sunday, and* Front Porch in Flatbush*, which the musical Saturday Night is based on. Epstein received the Writers Guild of America Award for his film Reuben, Reuben and a Career Achievement award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association in 1998.
