Trey Anastasio

Trey Anastasio is an American guitarist, composer, and songwriter, born on September 30, 1964, in Fort Worth, Texas. Best known as the lead singer and guitarist of the rock band Phish, Anastasio has also made a notable mark on musical theatre with his inventive approach to composition and genre-blending sensibility. His work bridges rock, classical, and theatrical traditions with a bold, creative energy.

Anastasio co-composed the score for the Broadway musical Hands on a Hardbody (2013) alongside lyricist Amanda Green. The show, based on a documentary about a Texas endurance contest, blended Americana, rock, gospel, and country influences into a rich and varied score. Though the musical had a short Broadway run, Anastasio’s contribution was widely praised for its musicality and emotional depth.
