William “Billy” Van Zandt is an American playwright and actor. He was raised in Middletown Township, New Jersey, and met his future writing partner, Jane Milmore, at a high school drama competition. Cited in the New York Times as “masters of modern farce”, Van Zandt and Milmore wrote 23 plays together over their 46-year partnership. Their most popular plays include You’ve Got Hate Mail, Drop Dead, and Silent Laughter. Van Zandt’s solo play, The Property Known as Garland, broke box office records when it premiered at the Actors’ Playhouse off-Broadway.
Van Zandt has also written for television, including Newhart, Martin, and the Emmy-nominated special I Love Lucy: The Very First Show. As an actor, he has appeared in episodes of Life with Lucy and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. He is married to actress Teresa Ganzel and resides in Los Angeles.
