Cass Morgan is an American actress, singer, writer, and composer best known for her warm, expressive voice and deep connection to character-driven storytelling in musical theatre. A versatile and beloved figure on the American stage, Morgan has built a distinguished career spanning Broadway, Off-Broadway, television, and regional theatre, while also making her mark as a co-creator and performer in innovative musical productions.

Morgan rose to prominence as a co-creator and original cast member of the hit musical Pump Boys and Dinettes (1981), a country-tinged revue about a group of gas station attendants and diner waitresses in rural North Carolina. She co-wrote the show alongside fellow performers Mark Hardwick, Debra Monk, John Foley, Jim Wann, and John Schimmel, and played the role of one of the “Dinettes.” The show became a Broadway success in 1982 and helped pioneer a new wave of actor-musician musicals where performers played instruments live on stage.

She followed up this success with another original work, Oil City Symphony (1987), which she co-created and starred in. Like Pump Boys, the musical featured a group of small-town musicians reuniting to honor their retiring high school music teacher. The show was a critical and popular hit Off-Broadway and won several ensemble awards, including a Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award.

In addition to her original musicals, Morgan has had a rich performing career in other acclaimed productions. Her Broadway credits include The Human Comedy, Capeman, Mary Poppins, and The Bridges of Madison County, where her grounded, heartfelt performances brought depth and sincerity to each role. She has also worked extensively at regional theatres, including the Berkshire Theatre Group and the Williamstown Theatre Festival, and has appeared in television shows such as Law & Order and The Good Wife.

Morgan is known for her ability to embody Americana and working-class warmth on stage, often portraying characters with authenticity, wit, and emotional depth. As both a performer and writer, she has championed stories that highlight community, resilience, and human connection.

Cass Morgan’s contributions to American theatre are celebrated for their originality and heart. Through her enduring stage presence and creative spirit, she continues to inspire audiences and fellow artists alike.
