Sara Bareilles was born in California in 1979. She developed a talent and enthusiasm for performing while in high school, playing Audrey in a production of Little Shop of Horrors. She attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where she joined an a capella singing group. After graduating, Bareilles pursued her dream of pursuing a career as a musician. She recorded her first demo in 2003 and her first album, Careful Confessions was released in 2004, followed by Little Voice in 2007. The album single “Love Song” was a huge hit and Bareilles’ career took off. She received two Grammy nominations for Best Song and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

While continuing her music career, Bareilles also became a television judge on The Sing-Off, before turning her attention to Broadway. Waitress premiered on Broadway in 2016, with music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles. Based on the 2007 film of the same name, the show has become a huge smash hit across the globe and was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Bareilles herself has taken to the Broadway and West End stage to play the part of Jenna. She also released a 2015 companion album entitled What's Inside: Songs From Waitress.

In 2018, Bareilles played Mary Magdalene in the US TV adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.
