John Kane is a British actor and writer.
He was an associate actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company under legendary director Peter Brook, and played Puck in Book's highly acclaimed A Midsummer Night's Dream, amongst many other productions. His television acting credits include Tommy in the 1974 Doctor Who serial Planet of the Spiders.
As a writer, he created many successful sitcoms in Britain in the 1970s-80s: Happily Ever After, Terry and June, Me and My Girl, All in Good Faith, and The Feathered Serpent. On stage, he penned the RSC's wildly successful adaptation of The Wizard of Oz in 1985, the West End Cole Porter revue A Swell Party, and The Canterbury Ghost at the Southwark Playhouse, for which he also composed the music. Recently, he's created the television film The Vamp, children's animated series Magic Adventures of Mumfie, and David in December (Cable ACE Award Winner for Screenplay). He and composer David Bass collaborated on the children's opera Kids Court which premiered in 2007 with the North Cambridge Family Opera Company in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
