Through his collaborations with Luigi Illica, and his work with the great opera composers at the end of the 19th century, Giuseppe Giacosa made a lasting impact on operatic history, and created librettos to some of the most well-loved operas still in the repertory. Operas that he worked on include Manon Lescaut, La Boheme, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly. It is thought that Illica was responsible for creating the plot and structure of the stories, where Giacosa complimented him by creating the poetry and verse.
