Biography
Anthony J. Piccione
Anthony J. Piccione is an award-winning autistic writer and producer based in New York City. Born in Rochester, NY and raised in Connecticut, Piccione's debut full-length drama A Therapy Session with Myself premiered in January 2019 at the New York Theatre Festival before transferring in May to the Kraine Theater for an extended year-long run. His second full-length play One Empire, Under God, an epic dystopian drama about the dangers of religious extremism and right-wing populism, made its live premiere at The Tank in November 2021 after previously premiering via Zoom earlier that year, before touring virtual fringe festivals worldwide beginning in 2022. Additionally, Piccione's eclectic canon of one-acts has previously been presented in NYC at The Tank, the Hudson Guild Theatre, Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, Midtown International Theatre Festival, and Manhattan Repertory Theatre, as well as at regional venues such as Playhouse on Park, Hole in the Wall Theatre, the Windsor Art Center, and Windham Theatre Guild. His short drama What I Left Behind was named the New York Theatre Festival Winterfest’s Best Short Play of 2018, and he was also nominated for Planet Connections Theatre Festivity’s Outstanding Playwright award for his avant-garde one-act 4 $tages. His short film The Fire That Won’t Stop was recently named an official selection at the Venice Short Film Awards, the Paris International Short Festival, and the Hollywood International Golden Age Festival and is available for streaming at Vimeo.
In addition to his work as a writer, Mr. Piccione is also the Founding Artistic Director of the Neurodivergent New Play Series dedicated to promoting the work of neurodivergent playwrights, as well as the Talking It Out Virtual Arts Festival dedicated to raising mental health awareness through digital programming in theatre, film, poetry, and visual art since 2020. He has also previously worked as a scriptwriter-for-hire whose work has been commissioned by Sesame Workshop and various other clients, taught playwriting at EPIC Players and Broadway Weekends, and has served on the Board of Directors of the Autistic Theatremakers Alliance.
