Overview
Analysis
Historically, Gaveston was King Edward II’s best friend, and considered by many to be the king’s lover. Brecht’s version of the story recognizes the romantic relationship between the two men--even a ballad peddler sings (in mockery) that Edward’s queen has a hairy chest.
