Analysis
The Guide pops out of a steamer trunk in Beth’s attic. She represents Beth’s unconscious mind and tells her she’s about to go on a journey. When she reappears at the end of the play, she reveals that she is in fact Jill, Beth’s sister who apparently died in a car wreck.
