Sam Phillips is the ambitious owner of Sun Records, the label famous for launching the careers of a number of early rock and roll stars in Memphis, Tennessee. Having a talent for identifying great young talent, Sam has signed superstars Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis to his record label. He hosts the four men in an impromptu jam session one night, and records the musical proceedings of the evening. Sam serves as the show’s all-knowing narrator, sharing the prosperous future of his superstars with the audience and walking them through that historic day as each musician navigates his career in the blossoming era of rock and roll.
