Longwood University

About
Longwood’s Theatre Program emphasizes professional-level training across performance, design, technology, and education. It is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre and focuses on collaborative, creative work that combines theory, practical study, and production experience. Students are mentored closely by faculty and participate in main-stage and studio productions, internships, and special topics courses.
Within the Cook‑Cole College of Arts and Sciences, students explore three dimensions: theoretical studies (history, literature, criticism), performance (acting, movement, voice), and technical/design elements (lighting, sound, costumes, stagecraft).
Smaller cohort sizes (under 30 theatre majors total) foster personalized instruction and community engagement on a tight-knit campus. The program also collaborates with guest artists and supports participation in regional theatre associations and festivals.
