About

Seton Hill University, located in Greensburg, PA, supports a robust and inclusive Theatre Arts program within its School of Visual & Performing Arts. The B.A. in Theatre Arts offers students broad exposure—spanning acting, directing, dance, design, and technical production—without requiring early specialization. Small class sizes and faculty with professional experience foster personal mentorship and creative exploration.

The production calendar is lively: each year the department stages three full-length theatre productions, two dance concerts, and numerous studio and student-driven shows. Students—first-years included—are encouraged to audition or crew from day one, gaining meaningful experience in acting, costuming, scenic and lighting design, stage management, and box office operations.

Courses blend liberal arts and studio training. Theatre Arts students take classes in script analysis, voice and movement, theatre history, directing, and introductory or advanced design and technical labs. Practicum and lab credits are earned through hands-on production involvement. Majors may also extend their studies via study abroad, internships, and interdisciplinary electives.

Seton Hill offers more specialized degrees through audition-based programs. The B.F.A. in Acting provides conservatory-level training tailored for stage and screen performers, while Musical Theatre is available as both a B.A. and a B.F.A., combining acting, dance, and vocal instruction. The Design & Technology B.F.A. focuses on scenic, lighting, costume, and production design skillsets for theatre professionals.

Students benefit from modern performance facilities including the Performing Arts Center, which houses the William Granger Ryan Theatre and Ridge Performance Studio. Seton Hill’s Career & Professional Development Center also partners with major internships and apprenticeship programs—often with regional theatres and themed entertainment companies—to support real-world connections.
